Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System This Season.

The Championships court with video review technology

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.

Players are granted the right to question specific calls from the official, echoing the practice currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This move follows just a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to review specific situations, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be no cap on the number of challenges a player can request.

A Recent Example

An illustrative incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

The umpire watched a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Wider Implementation

Video reviews aren't new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Further Updates

A further change at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
