A Number of Hurt as Rough Air Strikes Delta Flight Arriving in Sydney, Australia

Delta Airlines reported the aircraft encountered "momentary rough air" as it arrived at its destination.

Multiple passengers and crew were hurt following a Delta Airlines aircraft traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by rough air Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it landed at Sydney Airport, a company official informed. Several cabin crew members were injured.

Local paramedics said they assessed a total of five people, and transferred three to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that such as spinal discomfort and migraines. The patients' ages ranged from their 30s up to the 70s.

The event represents the newest example of planes encountering atmospheric disturbance, with aviation specialists pointing out that global warming is a key driver.

On board were nearly 250 travelers and a crew of 15 on the wide-body jet, the representative said, clarifying that the plane landed "safely and normally" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday.
