2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Mixed Reception

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a clearer vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our audience.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Director of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben starts with us on next week.

Brinkman currently holds the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Project Ethos was revealed in October 2024 in conjunction with a early access event. Initially, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling step forward on the category."
